Tom Verlaine du groupe americain Television. Voilà bien un des meilleurs guitaristes que j ai vu sur une scène. Apres le concert, je suis allé diner à Belleville avec Lenny Kaye que je connaissait depuis 77, et il m a dit que c était Tom Verlaine. Drôle de mec, ce Tom. Je l avais rencontré avec un ami à New York, lorsque je travaillais pour IRS records, le label qu on avait monté avec Miles Copeland, le manager de police. Tom Verlaine cherchait un label, et un des mes amis de fac d Aix en Provence, Patrick Derivaz, qui était devenu un ingénieur producteur et bassiste reconnu à New York, travaillait avec lui. Maigre, étrange, on avait parlé toute l après midi. On n a jamais signé Tom. Voilà un guitariste qui ne s est jamais mis en avant. En fait ce soir là, avec Patti Smith, il jouait assis derrière tout le monde.
